It started as an apparent argument about a hat and ended up with one man life-flighted to the hospital for head injuries and four others facing some serious charges.

Cape May Police say the incident happened just after midnight on Saturday, September 4th in the area of Perry Street in Cape May.

Police Chief Dekon Fashaw says the victim and four suspects had an argument about the hat the victim was wearing. The hat was removed by one of the perpetrators. According to Fashaw, "While the victim was attempting to get his hat back from the perpetrators, the victim was struck in the left side of his face causing him to lose consciousness. As a result, the victim fell to the ground striking the back of his head on the pavement."

All four suspects ran away, and the victim was ultimately taken to Cape Regional Medical Center and later airlifted to Atlantic City Medical Center Trauma Unit.

Police have only identified the man as being from Galloway Township. His identity has not been released by the police.

An investigation led to the questioning and arrest of four suspects:

"-Grant Peden of Downingtown, Pennsylvania was charged with Aggravated Assault (2nd Degree), Conspiracy to Commit Robbery (2nd Degree), Endangering an Injured Victim (3rd Degree), Disorderly Conduct (Disorderly Persons).

-Brian Dignen of Chester Springs, Pennsylvania was charged with Robbery (2nd Degree), Conspiracy to Commit Robbery (2nd Degree), Disorderly Conduct (Disorderly Persons).

-David Reimold of Chester Springs, Pennsylvania was charged with Robbery (2nd Degree), Conspiracy to Commit Robbery (2nd Degree), Disorderly Conduct (Disorderly Persons).

-William Castoldi of West Chester, Pennsylvania was charged with Robbery (2nd Degree), Conspiracy to Commit Robbery (2nd Degree), Disorderly Conduct (Disorderly Persons).

According to the police report, "Peden was placed on a warrant, while Dignen, Reimold, and Castoldi were all processed and released on summonses."

Finally, police have not revealed any sort of motive dealing with the hat, or the type of hat the victim was wearing.
