Would you rent someone's backyard pool by the hour? Apparently, backyard pool rentals are becoming a thing.

The idea began in California when people started renting out their backyard pools during the coronavirus outbreak.

Most public pools were closed due to the outbreak and with the warm weather, people saw a chance to make some extra money renting out their pools.

One couple in Los Angeles say they’ve made about $7,000 opening up their pool to strangers.

The couple used "Swimply", a small start-up that lets people offer their backyard pool for rent by the hour, for a 15% service fee.

Now the idea has begun to catch on here in New Jersey, where a search for Swimply found five backyard pools available for rent by the hour, including one close by in Barnegat Township.

Beth is offering her 40' X 18' salt water backyard pool for $45 an hour, with amenities including a screened-in gazebo, dining table, lounge chairs, BBQ grill and a playground.

The ad promotes a '"very private pool area with calming nature all around." What's not so very private and calming is the bathroom, which is inside Beth's house.

Four other pools are listed for rent by the hour around New Jersey, including "Samantha and Noah's Oasis" for only $15 an hour.
