An 83-year old man walking on Asbury Avenue in Ocean City died after being hit by a vehicle on Thursday, Jan 13, according to a press release from the city.

John Francis Wilson of Ocean City was hit by the side-view mirror of a 2013 Ford Explorer when he stepped out from between two parked cars on the 700 block of Asbury Ave.

A joint investigation by the Cape May County Prosecutor's Office and the Ocean City Police found that Wilson was not in the crosswalk when he attempted to cross Asbury Avenue.

Police say Wilson suffered head trauma and was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City where he later died from his injuries.

The driver of the Explorer, Douglas Mantealegre, 33, of Philadelphia, was found to be driving with a suspended license.

He was charged with driving with a suspended license while involved in an accident which resulted in a serious bodily injury. He was also found to have outstanding warrants for his arrest.
