The Atlantic Shore 13U baseball team captured another Southern New Jersey State Championship over the weekend, finishing 4-1 at the double-elimination tournament hosted in Ventnor, NJ.

Atlantic Shore features players from Brigantine, Margate, Longport, Linwood, Northfield, Upper Twp, and Mullica.

ASHORE, defeated Brick American 12-1, Berlin 10-4, and Hamilton/Northern Burlington 11-2 to make it to the winner's bracket finals where they would have a rematch with rival Hamilton/Northern Burlington.

Hamilton/Northern Burlington earned a trip to the finals with a 2-1 record, needing to defeat ASHORE twice in the championship round.  They knocked off ASHORE 5-2 in Game 1, forcing an "if" game 2.

ASHORE came out quickly, scoring seven runs in the top of the first inning, and never looked back, defeating Hamilton/Northern Burlington 11-3 in the deciding game.

Kam Street, from Brigantine, earned his second win in tournament play on the mound, adding a double and two RBI at the plate to help his cause. He tossed six strong innings, giving up just five hits, and struck out three to earn the win.

On offense he was helped out by Tyler Buccafurni of Northfield, who went 3-3, scoring two runs.  Jack Murray of Brigantine went 2-3 with two RBI. Ryan Bradly of Linwood had an RBI double in the first inning to help ASHORE pull ahead.

Overall in the five games, Brendan Mooney of Margate led the way hitting .500 with six hits in 12 at-bats, scoring eight runs. Bradly also hit .500 for the tournament, driving in five runs.  Murray led the team with eight RBI and hit .467 in the five games and Jack Fellows hit .429, scoring five times.

On the mound, the team compiled an ERA of 1.48, racking up 38 strikeouts in 33 innings of work. St

Street led the way, going 2-0 striking out 10 batters in 10 innings of work. Bradly tossed 8.2 strong innings, with 12 strikeouts and a 1.61 ERA.  Frank Steelman and Dante Zappala both pitched well out of the bullpen, combining to throw seven innings, giving up just one run and striking out 12 batters.

ASHORE advances to the Mid-Atlantic Regional Tournament from July 14-20 in Ventnor, with the winning team advancing to the 13U Babe Ruth World Series in Glen Allen, VA on Aug 10-20.

The Atlantic Shore 13's have established a strong tradition and program, winning state titles in 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2020, 2021, and now 2022.

The program has been to three World Series and captured the National Championship last season in Jamestown, NY.

Coaches: Don Myers, Steve Myers, Frank Curtin, Rocky Lacavara, and manager Mike Gill.
