Holy Cross High Alum Jeff Singer Gets Call From Phillies

The Phillies have called up South Jersey native Jeff Singer to the big leagues.

After seven years in minor league baseball, the 2011 graduate of Holy Cross Academy in Delran, will be with the team for their game tonight against the Mets at Citizens Bank Park.

Phillies closer Corey Knebel was not available to pitch Monday due to flu-like symptoms and has been placed on the COVID list.

Singer, 28, opened the season at Lehigh Valley, the Phillies Triple-A affiliate, going  1-0 with four shutout innings in two appearances.

Overall, the left-hander is 19-14 with a 3.20 ERA, 42 saves and 322 strikeouts in 101 career minor league games.

The Cinnaminson, NJ native played his college ball at Monmouth, Rutgers-Camden and was a two-time junior college All-American at Gloucester County College, helping the Roadrunners win the 2013 NJCAA Div. III national championship. He was named the 2013 National Player of the Year and holds school record for most career wins with 21, compiling a 21-2 record at GCC and recording 178 strikeouts at GCC.

His professional career started after working at a Philadelphia car dealership back in 2015.  He was discovered pitching in the Rancocas Valley League in Burlington County and signed with the now-defunct Camden Riversharks and then signed a minor league contract with the Phillies in October 2015.

While in high school, he started for Holy Cross High School and Coach Steve Paolini, earning all-conference honors as a senior.
