If You Live Near Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst Prepare To Deal With More Smoke
Do You Smell Smoke in New Jersey?
When I was getting coffee at work this week, in Downtown Toms River, I could smell smoke as I made my way through the building. I know I shouldn't assume, but I do that this smokey smell is coming from the blaze they have been dealing with at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst.
According to reports from Patch, "The base's fire department is continuing to fight the wildfire that is confined to the base range area, where training is conducted. There have been no structures threatened by the fire, and no personnel have been evacuated."
According to Military OneSource, "Today, JB MDL is the only tri-service joint base in the Department of Defense, and it is one of the largest military installations in the country, with more than 42,000 active-duty service members, civilians, and family members”
In addition, Military OneSource added McGuire and Dix, are located in Burlington County, New Jersey. Navy Lakehurst is located in Ocean County.
Smoke has been drifting from the base all week and folks around Ocean County have been smelling the drifting smoke. "The fire department continues to closely monitor the fire."
Have you smelled smoke in parts of Ocean, Burlington, or Monmouth Counties? If so, let us know where and how intense it's been for you. Hopefully, officials will have the smoke cleared in the days to come. We have had some extremely dry conditions here in New Jersey with very little rain over the past couple of weeks.
