The saying goes, "Pics or it didn't happen."

However, that doesn't apply to voting - at least not in New Jersey.

No selfies, it's the law

In New Jersey, you cannot take a selfie in a voting booth. It's against the law, and you could be found guilty of disorderly conduct.  Whether anyone has ever been prosecuted for this specific offense, we don't know.

Wart to show off to friends and family that you voted? Try another way. You just can't do it with a selfie in the voting area.

New Jersey law says you must prepare your ballot in private, and not share the moment with others.  You can read through a lot of the New Jersey voting laws here.

Some states do allow ballot selfies, while others do not. In some states, you can do the selfie, as long as you don't show your completed ballot.

What's the problem?

So, what's the big deal?

That's what I thought - who cares?

It could be a case of the government looking after you. Really.

I came across this scenario:

*You go vote and take a photo of you and your ballot. Your employer sees your ballot, doesn't like who you voted for ---- and fires you! Eek! No one wants that.

If you want to "prove" you voted, take a selfie outside the building, near a sign. Or, some voting places will give you a sticker to wear! (My polling place NEVER has stickers!)
