The small borough of Newfield, in Gloucester County New Jersey was the center attention of a manhunt for a fugitive from Atlantic County.

At around 8pm last night, police in Newfield asked residents to shelter in place as they searched for a 52-year-old Hispanic male, 5 foot 5 inches tall and 170 pounds.  He was last seen wearing blue jeans and a white shirt.

Police have information that he may be in the Newfield or Franklin Township area.  Police haven't commented on the nature of his crime but believe he may be armed, and residents are warned not to approach him if he is seen.

Several area law enforcement agencies were involved in the manhunt for this individual.

At approximately 2am Friday, authorities lifted the shelter-in-place order, but warned residents to remain vigil.  The Gloucester County Emergency Management says,

Public assistance needed! Police in Newfield/Franklin Twp in search of a potentially armed subject. Anything out of the ordinary, persons are urged to contact 9-1-1. Leads could include, but not limited to: barking dogs, security cam. notifications, unusual noises outdoors etc.

The borough of Newfield is a borough of approximately 1774 residents located in Gloucester County.
