A 78-year-old driver from Pennsylvania was hurt over the weekend in a crash involving an ambulance in Cape May County.

The Middle Township Police Department says their officers were called to Route 9 North in Swainton at around 12:30 Saturday afternoon, July 6th.

According to authorities, an investigation revealed an Inspira ambulance was traveling north on Route 9 with its lights and sirens activated while en route to a medical emergency when a vehicle pulled out in front of them.

EMT personnel in the ambulance were not hurt, however, the unidentified driver of the other vehicle, who was from Lansdowne, PA, was flown to Jefferson Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

That section of Route 9 was closed for about two hours while the scene was cleared.

Police say traffic summons may be issued pending further investigation of the accident.
