An Atlantic City man has been sentenced to a dozen years behind bars for robbing two food delivery people at gunpoint in 2023.

On Tuesday, 23-year-old Majid Harris was sentenced on two indictments for the following charges:

  • 2 counts of first-degree armed robbery
  • Second-degree possession of a handgun for an unlawful purpose
  • Second-degree aggravated assault

Under the terms of a plea agreement, he was sentenced to 12 years in state prison and will be required to serve at least a decade of that sentence before becoming eligible for parole.

Two armed robberies in Atlantic City

The Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office says that on the evening of November 25th, 2023, Harris ordered food to be delivered from a store in Atlantic City. When the delivery driver arrived, Harris robbed the driver at gunpoint, taking cash before running away.

Four days later, Harris used the same phone number to have food delivered from a different store in Atlantic City, and again, the driver was robbed at gunpoint.

Authorities say that although Harris disguised his face during the robberies, he was ultimately identified after police reviewed surveillance footage and conducted an investigation involving the phone number that was used.

Inmate beaten unconscious

After being arrested for those two robberies, Harris was detained in the Atlantic County Justice Facility, where he assaulted another inmate, who was beaten unconscious.

The Atlantic City Police Department investigated the robberies, and the Atlantic County Sheriff’s Office, Atlantic County Justice Facility personnel, and the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office investigated the jail assault. Assistant Prosecutor Chris D'Esposito prosecuted Harris’ robbery charges, and Assistant Prosecutor Deirdre Laws prosecuted the assault charge.
