Atlantic City, NJ, Mayor & ‘Super’ Wife Make Pitch to Beat Charges

Marty Small is the Mayor of Atlantic City, New Jersey. His wife, La’Quetta Small is the Superintendent of Public Schools in Atlantic City.

They both face criminal charges for child abuse. Marty Small also faces a separate indictment for alleged witness tampering.

They were back in court yesterday, trying to have their myriad of criminal charges dismissed … during an appearance before The Honorable Bernard DeLury, a New Jersey Superior Court Judge.

Previously, Marty and La’Quetta Small failed to have subpoenas quashed and evidence suppressed before Judge DeLury.

The information has been gathered by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office, and, it is compelling.

Marty Small faces the most charges versus La’Quetta Small, who faces one child abuse charge.

On September 17, 2024, the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office previously released the following information about the criminal charges:

Marty Small, Sr., 50, and his wife, La Quetta Small, 47, of Atlantic City, NJ were both indicted for second-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Marty Small, Sr. was also indicted for third-degree Terroristic Threats, and third-degree Aggravated Assault. It is alleged that during the months of December 2023 and January 2024, the defendants physically and emotionally abused their 15/16-year-old-daughter on multiple occasions. During one incident, on January 13, 2024, Marty Small, Sr. is alleged to have hit his daughter multiple times in the head with a broom causing her to lose consciousness, said the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office.

Bernard DeLury has set a trial date of July 14, 2025 for Marty and La’Quetta Small.

DeLury will announce his decision about the Small request to dismiss all charges in the coming weeks.

Marty Small will face a Democratic Primary election challenge versus Bob McDevitt on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 while under serious criminal indictment.
