Child in Evesham, NJ, Removed From Home Containing Dozens of Dead Dogs
A horrific story out of Burlington County -- two people have been charged and a child was removed from a home after authorities discovered dozens of dead dogs.
WPVI-TV reports Evesham Township Police were called to a home on the 600 block of Main Street Monday for a report of sick and malnourished dogs.
There, officers say they found the remains of 30 dead dogs. As many as 100 may have died in the home and some may be buried on the property.
Police also allegedly found numerous living dogs, cats, and rabbits.
Of those dogs, one was euthanized while nine of them are being treated at a local animal hospital.
Arrested and charged
32-year-old Brandon Leconey and 35-year-old Rebeccah Halbach have been charged with endangering the welfare of a child and animal cruelty.
WNBC-TV reports Leconey was lodged in the Burlington County Jail while Halbach is currently being evaluated at the hospital for an unrelated medical condition. She will be taken to jail once she has been released. Both will remain in custody pending a detention hearing.
Child removed
A child who was living in the home was removed due to the unhealthy conditions and is in the care of the New Jersey Division of Child Protection & Permanency.
The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
