Congress Hall: A Historic Gem in Cape May, NJ, on USA Today’s Top Historic Hotels List
A centuries-old inn in Cape May has recently been voted one of the top ten historic hotels in America by readers of USA Today.
USA Today describes their rankings as,
In today's travel landscape... a bit of history is often welcome. Each of these classic lodgings, nominated for the title of Best Historic Hotel by a panel of hotel experts, has witnessed a great deal of history, and each has held true to its historic roots and unique sense of place.
A panel of experts worked with editors to pick the initial nominees; the final rankings were determined by popular vote.
Top Honors
From those results, Congress Hall in Cape May, which first opened in 1816 and then later reopened in 1878 following a fire, ranked 9th on the prestigious list.
Other Big Winners
Coming in at the top is the legendary Peabody Hotel in downtown Memphis, TN.
The only other historic inn on the list on the East Coast was the Historic Hotel Bethlehem in Bethlehem, PA, which placed second.
