Lindenwold, NJ, Man Charged with Murder in Delayed Homicide
A Lindenwold man has been arrested in connection with an assault back in June that resulted in the death of another man two months later.
Camden County Prosecutor Grace MacAulay says 37-year-old Wilmer A. Velasquez-Orellans is now facing a first-degree murder charge.
Assault Reported in June
Just before 5:00 on the morning of June 13th, Lindenwold police officers were called to the Pinewood Estates apartment complex on the 500 block of East Gibbsboro Road for a report of an assault.
Upon arrival, officers located the victim, 42-year-old Alvaro I. Reyes-Rizo of Lindenwold, suffering from a head injury. He was taken to Cooper University Hospital for treatment.
During their investigation, authorities say detectives obtained surveillance video that captured a suspect, later identified as Velasquez-Orellans, striking the victim in the head with a club-like weapon during a fight.
Velasquez-Orellans was taken into custody and charged with second-degree aggravated assault and related weapons offenses. A court later released him with conditions.
