Pedestrian Injured; Wildwood Crest, NJ, Driver Charged With DWI
Authorities in Cape May County say a driver is facing a long list of charges, including DWI, following a weekend crash that injured a pedestrian.
21-year-old Elijah Bethel of Wildwood Crest was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, assault by auto, knowingly leaving a motor vehicle accident with serious bodily injury, and was issued with several motor vehicle summonses.
Just before 2:00 early Saturday morning, Middle Township police officers responded to the intersection of Route 47 and 5th Street in Rio Grande for a report of a crash.
Upon arrival, officers learned the driver of the vehicle had left the scene. Witnesses were able to give police a description of that vehicle and it was later located by Lower Township police.
The victim, a 48-year-old woman from West Wildwood, was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center-City Division for treatment and was last reported to be in critical but stable condition.
Route 47 was closed for approximately three hours while police cleared the scene.
The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
