Federal authorities say some pork rinds that were recently sold in New Jersey and New York are being recalled.

DEKA Trading Corp. is recalling approximately 13,771 pounds of imported ready-to-eat pork rind products that came from Guatemala, which is a country ineligible to export meat products to the United States.

The following product is subject to recall, regardless of the product date:

  • 5.3 oz. (150g) foil pouch packages containing “TorTrix Con Chicharrón”

The product, sold in New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Virginia, and Georgia, does not bear a USDA mark of inspection.

The problem was discovered during routine surveillance activities and there have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to anyone eating the pork rinds.

What to do

Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to eat them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
