Prosecutor: Cape May Court House, NJ, Man Had $300K in Illegal Drugs
37-year-old Luis Hernandez of Cape May Court House is facing a lengthy list of drug-related charges after authorities in Cape May County executed several search warrants on Friday.
According to Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey Sutherland, officers in his office, the DEA, the Cape May County Sheriff's Office, and state troopers raided Hernandez's house, vehicles, and a storage facility.
In total, police say they seized 16.5 pounds of suspected methamphetamine, over 1,400 bags of suspected heroin, and over a half-ounce of suspected crack cocaine.
The street value of what was confiscated is over $300,000.
Hernandez is facing the following charges:
- First-degree possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine
- Second-degree possession with intent to distribute heroin
- Second-degree possession with intent to distribute cocaine
- Third-degree possession of CDS/methamphetamine
- Third-degree possession of CDS/heroin
- Third-degree possession of CDS/cocaine
- Fourth-degree distribution of drug paraphernalia
- Third-degree money laundering
Hernandez is being held in the Cape May County Correctional Facility.
Sutherland said in a press release,
Our office will continue to work hand in hand with Federal and State partners along with the local municipalities to target, arrest and prosecute anyone selling and distributing to our residents illegal controlled dangerous substances that can ruin lives and kill people. This is being done in conjunction with our Community Outreach Programs, in particular our Hope One van program, to get drugs off the streets and to assist people afflicted with substance use disorder to get necessary treatment and services so they can return to being productive citizens.
The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
