A local product is one-step closer to the big leagues.

Holy Spirit high school alum, Mike Adams, was promoted to the Phillies Triple-A affiliate Lehigh Valley on Thursday. He joins 2014 St. Augustine graduate, Zach Warren, also a relief pitcher for the Phillies minor league squad.

Adams, 26, had been pitching at Single-A Jersey Shore before being promoted.

So far this season, the relief pitcher is 1-1 and has a 7.59 ERA  with 13 strikeouts in 10 2/3 innings for the BlueClaws.

Adams is one of the co-owners of the Baseball Performance Center in Pleasantville.  A workout facility that helps train young area baseball players.  He was discovered by the Phillies at a showcase event at Maplezone Sports Institute in Philadelphia after routinely hitting 98 MPH on the radar gun.

The 26-year old graduated from Holy Spirit in 2012 and went on to Wagner College to pitch. Following his collegiate career, he played a season with the Rockland (N.Y.) Boulders in the Can-Am Independent League before returning home to help run the BPC and pitch in the Atlantic County Baseball League for the Margate hurricanes.

“I graduated (college) in 2016 and played the 2016 season in Rockland, then came home and started BPC and was playing for Margate (in the Atlantic County Baseball League) the past three years. I was only about 90 to 94 in college and at Rockland, so this velocity jump is a pretty big one,” Adams told Glory Days magazine back in January.

He has been a teacher of the game, a scout an now he is one step closer to reaching the Major Leagues.

“I’ve grown up a die-hard Phillies fan, I went to the World Series (in 2008), I went to the parade — they’ve been my favorite team since I was a little kid, so getting to play for them is the icing on the cake," Adams told Glory Days magazine. "And their minor-league affiliates are right here in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, so that’s another plus,” he added.

Now he is one step closerr to playing in Philadelphia.
