Cops in Lower Township say a woman died from a drug overdose over the Memorial Day weekend and two people have been charged in connection to her death -- one is in custody and one is still wanted.

Officials say cops with the Lower Township Police Department responded to the 100 block of East New York Avenue Sunday afternoon for the report of a drug overdose.

Arriving officers found the victim, identified only as a 49-year-old woman, unconscious and unresponsive. A press release states, "officers administered Naloxone and attempted lifesaving procedures; however she was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics."

During a subsequent investigation, police say,

...evidence was collected from the scene and the LTPD Detective Division executed a court authorized search warrant which ultimately led to the arrest of Matthew Britton, 29 Villas. Britton was charged with 1st degree Strict Liability for drug induced death...and 2nd degree Reckless Manslaughter...and lodged in the Cape May County Correctional Center.

A second suspect was later identified as 25-year-old James E. Gartner of North Cape May. An arrest warrant has been issued for Gartner. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to contact Lower Township Police at (609) 886-1619 X156.
