Middle Twp Police: Who Painted Racial Slur on Utility Pole?

Middle Township Police are asking for help finding who is responsible for a graffiti incident. A racial slur was painted on a utility pole in a desolate area along the power lines in Swainton on Friday, Jan. 31.

The graffiti was reported by a resident who lives in a nearby neighborhood. The Middle Township Public Works Department was authorized by Township Committee to respond to the area after business hours to cover up the graffiti.

Paul Skill, with the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office said there was no room in the community for such an act.

“We have zero tolerance for bias crimes in Cape May County. Law enforcement needs to know about any such incident (whether or not it is a crime) to first make sure that any victim’s needs are addressed, to assure the public that law enforcement will act when there is any bias incident or crime and that any perpetrators are found and criminal charged.”

Prosecutors say they immediately removed and obscured the racist slur. Police are investigating the case as a bias incident.
