Neil Young is prepping a new studio project with Crazy Horse but he won't tour with them this year, as originally planned. Instead, he'll spend the remainder of 2019 working on films to be released via the Neil Young Archives site.

"NYA will be devoting the rest of this year to Shakey Pictures projects that deserve our focused attention to complete and deliver at their highest level," Young writes. "We will be in the editing suites for the duration of 2019, putting some parts of this together for you. Thanks for coming to our shows! We plan to be back in 2020!”

These 15 movies span nearly a half century of shows, and also include footage from recording sessions and an animated film by Micah Nelson set to the music of Trans. The earliest performance is a January 1971 solo date at Connecticut's Stratford Shakespearean Theater, and the most recent is a compilation from 2012-14 concerts with Crazy Horse.

Young also shot the sessions for the upcoming Colorado, his first studio effort with Crazy Horse since 2012's Psychedelic Pill. Young broke the news back in April, saying that they were about to record 11 new songs. "The band is excited to make this new album and continue our story,” Young said. “We sincerely hope [fans] enjoy our new music when it is released this year, because we know we will enjoy making it.”

Colorado will also be the first Crazy Horse album since the retirement of Frank "Poncho" Sampedro. His role has been filled by Young's longtime associate and E Street Band guitarist Nils Lofgren, who also took part in Crazy Horse's 2018 shows.
