On his Instagram, Turner called his time as a firefighter, 'The best job I was fortunate enough to be part of.'

Now, the 58-year-old takes on one of the biggest challenges of his life: Surviving on an island in the middle of nowhere. But, he's confident he's got what it takes to compete on one of TV's most rigorous and unforgiving competitions, saying in a promotional video for the show"My career as a firefighter has totally prepared me for a game like 'Survivor,' because everybody says they'd run into a burning building and pull a person out."

Turner also says his secret weapon, 'The Hoboken Whisper', speaking loudly with reckless abandon, will keep rivals in their place. Season 42 of 'Survivor' premieres on CBS on March 9th at 8 p.m. Among the contestants vying to keep their place in the tribe and not get voted off the island are a pageant coach, a data scientist, a dietician, a stay-at-home-dad, and a business recruiter.
