One Dead, Cops Say 18-Year-Old Driver Caused Crash in Hammonton

Tragedy in Hammonton last Sunday as a 57-year-old man was killed in a two-car crash on the White Horse Pike.

NJ.com cites Hammonton Police as saying it was an unlicensed driver that caused the accident at about 5:40 pm.

According to the story, "Federico Cano allegedly cut off an eastbound pickup truck while trying to turn left from the westbound White Horse Pike into the ShopRite parking lot. The pickup truck then slammed into the side of Cano’s car, killing a 57-year-old man."

NJ.com says Cano and another passenger - a 17-year-old- were taken to the hospital for treatment and released. The driver of the pickup, a 34-year-old woman from Egg Harbor City, was not injured.

Police have not yet released the identity of the man who died.

Cano has been charged with "operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s license and causing a motor vehicle accident resulting in death. He was also issued summonses for careless driving, reckless driving, and having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle." According to NJ.com, he was taken to the Atlantic County Jail.
