A second teenager has been arrested and charged with murder in connection to the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old in Atlantic City on June 15th.

The Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office says a 16-year-old male from Atlantic City was arrested on Wednesday and charged with murder and weapons offenses.

This latest arrest comes after a 15-year-old male was also charged with the murder in connection to the same shooting.

Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon G. Tyner said in a press release, "This arrest is the product of the hard work and continuing investigation of the detectives of both the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Atlantic City Police Department."

Authorities say on the night of June 15th, officers in Atlantic City responded to the 1000 block of Arctic Avenue for a ShotSpotter alert. Arriving officers located a 16-year-old gunshot victim, who was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center - City Division with serious injuries.

Just days later, a 15-year-old male from Atlantic City was arrested following an investigation into the shooting. The 15-year-old male was initially charged with attempted murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. Those charges were upgraded to murder on June 25th when the shooting victim died at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in Philadelphia.

Following the death of the 16-year-old shooting victim, Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon G. Tyner asked a powerful question, "Gun violence is a tragic reality in our society. However, when it effects our youth we sustain an incalculable loss of human potential. My only question is: when will someone from our community stand up enough to give a damn?"

The 15-year-old and 16 year-old males who have been charged with the fatal shooting remain lodged at the Harborfields Detention Facility.
