Stafford Twp Police Say Doorbell App Helped Nab Burglar

A Little Egg Harbor man has been arrested for theft and burglary in the Ocean Acres area of Stafford Township, and police are crediting a popular doorbell device with helping them identify the man as their suspect.

Stafford Township Police say that Wednesday morning they received a report of a man entering vehicles in the Ocean Acres area. Police say the victim had the suspect on video, thanks to a Ring Doorbell App.

Police say the suspects video, and tips received from a popular neighborhood app led them to a suspect standing at a bus stop on Route 9 in Manahawkin.

Police say they arrested Jason Smith, 34 of Little Egg Harbor. Smith was charged with Theft, Burglary, and Criminal Attempt.
