One of the primary reasons families choose to add in a furry four-legged friend isn't for the cuddle factor.

Most people choose to adopt a dog for many reasons, one of the top five being for protection against potential threats to the family.

That, obviously, includes a hostile home invasion situation. Common sense would lead most to believe that a big scary-looking pup would immediately jump in to save the family that feeds him or her every single day. On this Youtube clip from Inside Edition Investigates, they put a few doggos to the test to see if normal assumptions and stereotypes hold true.

As it turns out, if you thought that a big dog is more likely to protect you than the smaller breeds, you were wrong to judge a book by its cover. Shocking, right?
