Petty, the 26th pick in the 2021 draft, missed the start of the 2023 season with an elbow injury but has been showing people why he was a first-round selection.
Petty, a right-handed pitcher from Somers Point, had a terrific senior season, throwing 48.2 innings, giving up just eight earned runs all season. He struck out 99 hitters and walked just 17, finishing with a 6-1 record, posting a 1.00 ERA.
Don’t look now, but the 2021 MLB Draft gets underway this weekend and a pair of local pitchers are hoping to hear their names called in the first-round.
