We all want to be safe and sound and knowing what you are up against is a huge part of that.  The FBI releases a report of crime across the country, and that report gets granular enough to see what's going on in individual cities in New Jersey.  These are the 10 most dangerous places to be in our state.

First, we should define what the FBI considers violent crime.  Murder, manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault are what’s represented in these numbers.

  • 10

    Edison Township

    120 violent crimes

  • 9

    203 violent crimes

  • 8

    Atlantic City

    276 violent crimes

  • 7

    333 violent crimes

  • 6

    East Orange

    354 violent crimes

  • 5

    897 violent crimes

  • 4

    1,198 violent crimes

  • 3

    1,076 violent crimes

  • 2

    Jersey City

    1,233 violent crimes

  • 1

    2,069 violent crimes

This is a know-before-you-go situation. Of these places, I hang in Atlantic City, Jersey City, and Newark (the food is epic and the restaurants totally authentic) but I’m vigilant.  At the end of the day, you need street smarts and good judgment.  Stay safe.
