A 56-year-old woman from Villas is recovering from not only being in an accident Friday night, but also being ran over by a car that was involved in that accident.

Wildwood Police say they responded to the 300 block of West Rio Grande Avenue around 10:00 Friday night for the report of an accident. When they arrived, they found an injured woman laying in the road.

According to police,

...the woman was stopped in traffic while traveling eastbound on Rio Grande Avenue when her vehicle was struck from behind by a white sports car. As the victim exited her vehicle following the collision, a verbal altercation ensued between the two drivers, during which the driver of the sports car attempted to drive from the scene. In an effort to prevent the sports car from leaving, the victim placed herself in front of the vehicle. The driver of the sports car proceeded slowly for several feet, pushing the victim backwards, before quickly accelerating. The victim was ultimately pulled under the sports car and run over by at least one of the vehicle’s tires as the sports car fled from the scene.

During their investigation, cops determined a white Dodge Challenger, registered to 21-year-old Dalton Storms from Franklinville, was the other car involved in this incident. Detectives found and impounded the Challenger at Storms’ residence, but he was not there. A warrant has now been issued for his arrest.

Storms has been charged with Aggravated Assault, Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury, Endangering an Injured Victim, and Violating a Law Intended to Protect Public Health and Safety.

The woman involved in the accident sustained multiple injuries and has since been released from the hospital.
