The power of social media and the popularity of door bell cameras lead to the end of the crime spree of an Absecon man dubbed the Hanging Basket Bandit.

Early Sunday morning, a man was seen on a home surveillance video system stealing two hanging flower from the front porch of an Absecon home.The homeowners reported the theft to Absecon Police Sunday afternoon and posted the video of the theft on social media where it quickly racked up over 39,00 views.

Monday, the man, who was identified from the video as Jimmie E. Anderson of Absecon, was arrested for the crime.

Officers went to Anderson's home and found the stolen hanging baskets in plain sight in his yard. Police also found several other potted plants and lawn statues at Anderson's home that had been previously been reported stolen or that they believe may have been taken in other recent thefts of property.

Absecon Police are asking for anyone who has had plants or outdoor items stolen this summer to contact them and report the incident.
