Cash Toll Collection Returns to the Parkway Tuesday Morning

You'll be able to pay tolls with cash again on the Garden State Parkway and New Jersey Turnpike starting Tuesday morning.

Officials with the New Jersey Turnpike Authority also say exact change lanes at Parkway on and off ramps will reopen on May 19th as well.

If you do pay with cash, toll collectors in the booths will be wearing gloves, face masks, and plastic face shields. The NJTA also says drivers who intend to pay with cash are encouraged to also wear face masks as they interact with toll collectors.

Since March 24th, tolls on the Parkway and Turnpike have been collected either by E-ZPass or by mail as a precaution against the spread of COVID-19.

The bridges of the Delaware River Port Authority — the Commodore Barry Bridge, the Walt Whitman Bridge, the Ben Franklin Bridge and the Betsy Ross Bridge — were the first toll roads in the region to resume taking cash this past Monday morning.

If you are headed into New York City, the Port Authority said it will not accept cash at the George Washington Bridge and the Holland and Lincoln Tunnels until executive orders are lifted by Gov. Phil Murphy and New York Gov. Mario Cuomo.

Cash toll collection on the Atlantic City Expressway was also suspended at the end of March; the South Jersey Transportation Authority has yet to say when toll collectors will be back in-person on that road.
