Food Bank of South Jersey Receives $1M Donation Amid Pandemic
The Food Bank of South Jersey is currently trying to keep up with growing demands to fight hunger amid the coronavirus outbreak. But, a generous benefactor just donated $1 million.
The donation came from the United Health Foundation. The gift to Food Bank of SJ is reportedly part of the UHF's $50 million initiative to help health care workers, struggling communities, senior citizens, the homeless, and anyone experiencing food insecurity during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a statement to Patch.com, UnitedHealthcare Community & State, New Jersey CEO Charles Wayland said, "The COVID-19 public health emergency has compounded the many challenges faced by New Jersey's most vulnerable residents." Wayland continued, "Our partnership with the Food Bank of South Jersey will provide critical aid to those who need it most."
The Food Bank will be able to use the donation to hire more workers to prepare emergency food packages for South Jersey's most highly-impacted communities.
