Halle Berry Movie, Filmed in Atlantic City, Heading to Netflix
A movie called 'Bruised', starring and directed by Halle Berry and filming largely in Atlantic City, is heading to Netflix.
The film, about a former MMA fighter who's fallen on hard times and scraping to make her way back to the top, shot many scenes at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. Thanks to my longtime friend Jason Pinardo, who worked on the movie, I was lucky enough to visit the set and speak with Halle for a bit on the same day she welcomed a group of local at-risk middle school and high school students for an inspiring chat about chasing your dreams and never giving up on them. It was incredible to witness the Academy Award winner's interest in the lives of those kids, and what that moment must have meant to all of them.
'Bruised' just recently made its debut at the Toronto Film Festival, which is a huge deal for any film, and it reportedly received rave reviews, according to Weist-Barron-Ryan Acting Studios/Ryan Casting who helped cast the parts of the movie shot in Atlantic City.
Now, Variety reports that streaming giant Netflix is buttoning up a deal that would give them the rights to distribute 'Bruised', which means Berry's directorial debut will be primed for a ton of attention. Plus, we'll be able to enjoy it from the comfort of our couches. BONUS!
I'm so proud of my friend Jason and Halle for fighting to get this movie made in South Jersey and other parts of the Garden State. I know how important it was for both of them, for the Atlantic City community, and for local actors. And, it was amazing to have been able to witness some of that process, from open call castings with Weist-Barron-Ryan, to being at the Boardwalk Hall movie set (MMA fighting cage included!). I cannot wait to see 'Bruised'! We'll keep you posted on its Netflix premiere date as soon as we know more.
