Well this is a “whale of a tale” lol and who knows maybe they “thought” they saw a whale, but reports on social media with OC Scanner News, say folks saw a whale 🐋 off the coast of Asbury Park, right here at the Jersey Shore. Not a complete surprise, but less common for us to see these sightings close to the beach. The whale was allegedly spotted Sunday. (FYI Thank You to local resident Jerry Meaney who provided the photo of the Humpback Whale, those are my dolphin photos from a whale watching cruise here in Jersey).

There is not a lot to go on, but it's cool to think whales 🐳 could swim close to us here at the Jersey Shore. I would love to have my camera out and grab some photos of a Jersey whale. I have been on “whale watching” cruises but we didn't encounter any whales, just lots of dolphins 🐬  which made it worth the trip.....they were fun to photograph.

So whether or not it was a whale off of Asbury Park, it is a cool story and I’m assuming yes it was indeed a “jersey” whale. According to Google, the most common whale spotted at the Jersey Shore is the Megaptera Novaeangliae.....or more commonly known as the Humpback Whale. Usually the Humpback Whale is spotted in Jersey waters in spring, summer and fall.

Humpback whales are about the size of a school bus. Females are bigger then males. Humpback whales are known for melodic and haunting songs at sea.

So did YOU see a Humpback whale 🐳 today? If you did then maybe its the same whale spotted off Asbury Park. Double points if you spotted a whale and Bruce in Asbury today lol
