In Philly and South Jersey, people usually take a "go big or go home" approach to literally every holiday.

Think about it: most of us have a never-ending list of places to go and people to see from as early as October 1st all the way through New Year's Day. So, to say that Christmas is to blame for the South Jersey holiday madness just isn't true. If you can honestly admit that you actually get any time to yourself during the holiday season, then you must not be from the Delaware Valley.

I'm convinced that the reason everyone from Philly, South Jersey and the surroundings tend to get so busy this time of year is because of all the fun activities this place has to offer. You want pumpkin picking? You got it as soon as Labor Day comes and goes. How about hayrides? People began taking their kids on them in late August/early September. What about decorating for Christmas? Forget about waiting until after Thanksgiving. Some people have Christmas decorations up here in South Jersey the day after Halloween.

Condolences to all those basic fall decorations that never see the light of day.

The holidays are a constant time of "hurry up and wait". As a matter of fact, a new survey has determined that time to yourself is the first thing out the window as soon as life get hectic. 70% of people surveyed admit to doing this. There's a flip-side, though. In 2021, two out of three people have made it a point to dedicate more time that can be used to recharge from the stresses this time of year brings.
