Black Monday came a week late for the Eagles.

On Monday afternoon, NFL Media's Tom Pelissero dropped the increasingly inevitable bombshell that the Eagles and head coach Doug Pederson have parted ways.

This news, of course, comes on the heels of a second meeting with team owner Jeffrey Lurie, which was to take place on Monday in Florida. The two met last week to discuss plans for the upcoming season, which reportedly did not go well.

Pederson's vision for revival included the internal promotion of passing game coordinator/quarterbacks coach Press Taylor, who directly oversaw a drastic regression from the franchise quarterback.

Earlier today, the Inquirer's Jeff McLane reported that Pederson's initial coaching suggestions presented to Lurie included promoting pass game analyst Andrew Breiner to quarterbacks coach and promoting defensive line coach Matt Burke to defensive coordinator. Pederson also listed former Eagles' defensive backs coach and Lions' defensive coordinator Cory Undlin as a backup plan at defensive coordinator.

Pederson's hand has been forced on many occasions throughout his Eagles' tenure, and it appeared the inexplicable lack of say directed contributed to the separation.

Pederson catapulted the Eagles atop the football world with their first Super Bowl Championship less than three years ago, though the team has undoubtedly been on a downward spiral since, culminating in a dismal 4-11-1 record in 2020 amid a historically bad division.

Last season marks the first time since 2016 that Pederson has failed to lead the Eagles to the playoffs. The Super Bowl-winning head coach has compiled a 42-36-1 record since entering the head coaching ranks in 2016.
