Report: Zach Ertz “Growing Increasingly Impatient” with Eagles
The Eagles have until Wednesday to get under the league mandated $182.5 million salary cap for the upcoming 2021 season. They have been restructuring some veterans contracts to help inch closer to that number, but still have work to do.
One of the names to keep an eye on over the next few days is tight end Zach Ertz.
Ertz, who caught 36 passes for 336 yards and just one score is slated to earn $8.5 million this season, and is likely to be moved.
However according to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, Ertz is "growing increasingly impatient" with the team with his fate not yet decided. Per Pelissero, the Eagles insist they will not release Ertz, and multiple teams are showing interest in the three-time Pro Bowl tight end.
Per the report, the price has been too high for other teams, with the Eagles seeking a pick in the "third, maybe fourth-round range".
It is likely that if the Eagles can't find a trade partner the two sides part ways with the Eagles needing to shed salary and as the team looks to get younger. They have an in-house replacement for Ertz with Dallas Goedert already on the roster. Another name that has been mentioned in many mock drafts is Florida tight end Kyle Pitts, who has been described as more of an offensive weapon than a tight end.
Either way, some sort of split seems like the most likely scenario.
